Days #3, 4, and 5

Let me just start off by saying that I am faaaar from perfect. That isn’t just a preface for Day #3, but a general statement as you’ll realize. 🙂

Day #3 was a wash. I was under the weather, as in feeling the onset of a cold and too lethargic to move more than 300 feet (the distance required to move from bed to couch to refrigerator in that order and back). For a nanosecond I thought of turning on Insanity and doing some moves via the couch, but then my mind got in touch with my body and came back with a “heck no!” My mouth however seemed to operate perfectly fine, as it consumed every possible chocolate food item in sight. I think that was a symptom of the cold tbh.

Day #4 guilt set in and my preliminary-cold subsided (my non-Doctor opinion believes it had something to do with the chocolate). After 2 hours of contemplation and web-surfing, I realized I had run out of excuses. Even worse, the fear of summer and that whole “moment on the lips, forever on the hips” idea edged its way involuntarily into my mind because it applied about 20x just yesterday alone.

Once I decided that I HAD to turn on Insanity, I momentarily struggled with whether to turn on the video for Day #3 or #4 . According to Insanity’s workout calendar, there’s only one rest day allotted at the end of the week, after 6 days of working out. Skip one and you’re doomed to miss out on a lesson or be thrown off the calendar. I opted to miss a lesson and turned on Video #4 so that my rest days stayed the same (i.e., Saturdays). Hilarious because Day #4 is the Cardio Recovery—I wasn’t recovering from Cardio the previous day though, but rather laziness. I put in as much effort as I could, but I was nowhere near keeping up with Shaun T. Like not even close.

Still I felt a burn, so yay!

Day #5 I woke up with sore thighs. No pain, no gain…right? I then decided to eat banana pancakes first thing in the morning. Semi-healthy because they only consist of bananas, eggs, and oats, but then I added syrup. Pancakes aren’t pancakes without syrup! Recipe is similar to this: http://eugeniekitchen.com/banana-pancakes/ but I didn’t have any baking powder on hand, so I subbed in oats.

Anyway, the video for Day #5 is Pure Cardio. For every 30 seconds of exercise I probably did about 10 seconds…sorta. Aside from banana pancakes threatening to come back up and taking water breaks frequently, there were also some moves that were a no-go. For example, there are a couple of push-up related moves. Those were practically impossible for me to follow, since I can do about 2 push-ups without crying and falling on my chest. I just did a push-up or two during those times to build arm strength. There were also several jump in the air, jump down, and then push your legs out (similar to plank position) where I was going at a quarter of the pace. I still consider it a win because my thighs continued to burn throughout the day and my non-existent abs felt something tightening!

As for the mini goal: Things are going as planned! I finished lesson 5 today and I can introduce ma mère, mon père, mon frère, et ma soeur (spelling courtesy of google translate). Will I remember half of what I learned today tomorrow? Eh, no. But great thing about Coffee Break’s podcast is that they seem to reintroduce previous lessons into the new lessons. 🙂

Until next time, bonne nuit!

Bonjour!

I tried in February to start a blog, but in true procrastination/not-being-able-to-follow-through form, I only made one post. This month I am determined to keep blogging…past one day. I believe most everyone quotes Michael Jordan when it comes to trying, and I think it’s fitting if I do the same (even if I’m the least sports-minded person in the world): “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”- MJ

So yes, I have set new lofty goals and I plan on following through on some level. Here it is:

Major goal of the month: Doing Insanity as per the Insanity Calendar

Mini goal of the month: Learning Beginners French via Coffee Break podcasts

How’s it been going so far, you ask? Let me just tell you, turning on Insanity in itself made my heart race. Workout enough, right? Ha, I wish! Then I turn on Insanity and all I can think is, am I done yet? It’s a tortuous workout to say the least. And I’m huffing and puffing and really only doing 20% of the workout (30% if I’m being generous), but still I feel that feeling of accomplishment when I exit out of the video because I survived!

Yes, the fit test is to let you know that you’re not really fit. And the second workout is to tell you that you suck, but I think eventually it gets better (to the point that you could complete 50% and you’d pat yourself on the shoulder). Hell, I pat myself on the shoulder for just turning on the video. It’s hard when you’re lazy…. It’s also hard when you love to indulge yourself. I rewarded myself with nachos and chocolate cake. :-/ I judged myself for a brief second, before I realized that I could only change one habit at a time.

As for the mini goal: I’m on the third lesson. I can say that I’d be able to maintain a conversation with a legit french-speaking individual for a total of 30 seconds. Ce est la vie!

DAY 1 OF FEBRUARY CHALLENGES

Today is the very first day of the very first month that I attempt one big challenge and one mini challenge!

  • Big Challenge for February: No Processed Sugar
  • Mini Challenge for February: 28 Day Squat Challenge (perfect for February)

This also happens to be my first blog ever (so many firsts!) and I’m so technologically challenged that I had to google just about every aspect about blogging and have become mentally exhausted. Perhaps this is due to a lack of sugar? Me thinks so.

The gist of Day 1: No Processed Sugar and I completed the recommended 30 squats. Double YAY!

Meal 1:

Yes that is toast and butter, but I checked, and apparently butter does not have any sugar. Win!

Meal 2:

Mixed vegetables with brown rice and quinoa. I’m super proud because my typical dinner includes red meat, white carbs, and tons of sweets [the bad kind]. 🙂

Snacks: Kiwi, a bite of a breakfast sausage, and tons of coffee.
